The kids loved it. The teachers loved it. This was the best thing we did all year!

— Alex, K-6 principal (TX)

I want math to come alive for my students and to excite them as much as it excites me. This is what I’ve been searching for!

-Katie, 5th grade math teacher (TX)

Students could not stop saying, “this is so awesome!” over and over. Everyone was engaged, even the quiet ones. It gave me the opportunity to see that you have to have more faith in your students than what we sometimes have in them. If you don't tell them, they're going to find a way to do it and surprise you.

I didn't dare to interrupt. One just needs to look at their expression to understand the deep level thinking happening.

I can't stop talking about your program, it is exactly how math should be taught!

-Monica, 5th grade STEAM and after school teacher (TX)

It's a better way of doing math because it's really fun. You're learning kind of not knowing it. It’s like learning in disguise.

— Amelia, 5th grade student (IL)

The students loved the first activity and are excited for more! My principal also stopped by to observe and liked what she saw.

— Edith, 5th grade teacher (NC)

In regular math, they just tell us what to do. But in Space Academy, we learn by trying new things. More like hands-on experience without being told what to do.

I have this one friend, Natalie. In normal math, she tries really hard, but she feels like she doesn't do enough. When we were doing Space Academy, she was really relaxed. And she was like, “Hey, I think I got the hang of this. Math might be fun now.”

-Sofia, 5th grade student (TX)

I will be working with about 20 teachers soon and honestly, I can’t wait to tell them about your program and the impact it has made on our students. Kids wanted to continue after school tutoring … we have never heard this before!

Monica, 5th grade afterschool team lead (TX)

Your principles completely align with the way that I teach and the way that I want to engage my students in mathematics. These projects and lessons fit perfectly within my curriculum.

-Melissa, 5th grade math teacher (NJ)

We didn’t have to teach, as much as just guide. I found myself having to remind myself, “don't give it to them, don’t give it to them” because they were so close. And I think as a teacher, you want make sure they get it, but it’s so much more important when they get it themselves. Because they are so proud. And they didn’t forget it, because it wasn't given to them.

We learned a lot as teachers: these kids can do it. There's one kid who can't sit still in regular math. He just clowns around. But when it came to the building activity in Space Academy, he was like super into it. What I learned about him was his potential.

He became the engineer of the group, the king. And he's still that way. Weeks later, he's just like a different kid, man. He's on cloud nine. It carried over. I reflected on it and I thought, well, maybe it's me. Maybe I'm seeing him different. And I am, but his classmates treat him differently in the classroom. And I think that in itself, just having the respect of his peers has just made him a different kid.

The social emotional learning was a huge part of all of it. They had to learn how they all had different roles, and they had to learn how to communicate constructively without being offensive. It was a learning experience for me watching them work it out. It’s not just the kids learning. It's us learning, too.

-Michelle, 5th grade math teacher (TX)

We just did the first lesson of the Mega Mini Games and it was amazing! We are excited to keep working on this!

-Ilene, K-6 math coach (IL)

It's better than math. Even though it is math.

-Jared, 5th grade student (TX)
