DESIGN CAMP 1

OVERVIEW

Getting started

Hello, teachers! We’re excited for you & your students to be a part of Design Camp at MEGA MINI GAMES. Click on these sections to get started:

1: WELCOME

Building with fractions

Welcome to MEGA MINI GAMES: Design Camp 1! In this opening session, students practice using the Mega Building Kit and working as a team.

START ACTIVITY

2: LINE UP

Comparing & ordering fractions

In Line Up, players start by dividing up jobs and build card holders. During the game, they will draw & discard cards to place 5 fractions in order.

START ACTIVITY

3: LAUNCHBALL

Adding fractions

In Launchball, players start by building a Launchball court. Then, they bounce ping pong balls into targets, trying to cover squares.

START ACTIVITY

4: FINISH LINE

Equivalent fractions

In Finish Line, players build their own fraction dice. Then, they use those dice to make equivalent fractions to move on a number line.

START ACTIVITY

5: GAME X

Comparing fractions

It’s time for the design challenge! Players learn to play GAME X, the unfinished new fraction game from the Mega Mini designers.

START ACTIVITY

6: CREATE A WORLD

Creative design

Working as a class, players generate ideas for game “worlds,” defining settings, goals, and obstacles for their version of GAME X.

START ACTIVITY

7: MAKE YOUR PLAN

Working as a team

Design teams outline their ideas for settings, goals, and obstacles, getting them ready for a production day in Session 8.

START ACTIVITY

8: MAKE YOUR GAME

Working as a team

Designers produce final versions of their game board and game pieces, bringing their plan for an amazing GAME X to life.

START ACTIVITY

TARGET ZERO

Subtracting fractions

FREE. Create a mixed fraction from random draw of whole numbers. Subtract it from 12, then decide whether to risk another draw to get closer to zero.

ESCAPE FROM EVEREST

Multiplying whole numbers by fractions

FREE. Working as a team, assemble fraction equations from a set of 5 numbers and try to escape from Everest before nightfall.
